The High Court in London has ordered Express Newspapers to pay actress Kate Beckinsale thousands of dollars in damages for a bogus story it ran about her.
The BBC reports that Beckinsale she was awarded $32,400 in libel damages for an erroneous Daily Express report claiming she had been booted from a big-screen remake of Barbarella in favor of another actress, while also giving the impression that her career was on the fast track to nowhere.
Beckinsale's lawyer said the story was not only false, but embarrassing, and insisted that Beckinsale had never been in discussions to star in the film.
The BBC says the Daily Express apologized for the error and that it intends to pay damages and Beckinsale's legal fees.
