The upcoming remake of classic 1984 dance movie Footloose has been sidelined amid reports that director Kenny Ortega has walked away from the project.
Variety reports that Ortega has been less than pleased with the tone and budget of the remake and thus he's decided that he no longer wants to be involved in the production of the film.
A spokesperson for Paramount Pictures hints that Ortega's recent workload on the Michael Jackson film, This Is It, has taken its toll on the director:
"Coming off of the extraordinary project, Michael Jackson's This Is It, director Kenny Ortega has decided it is premature for him to commit to his next film and will not be moving forward with Footloose as previously reported."
Filming is scheduled to begin next year and stars Chace Crawford and Julianne Hough.
