A judge in Bern, Switzerland has denied French-born filmmaker Roman Polanski's bid to be released from the Swiss jail where he's been held for more than two weeks.
Polanski, 76, was arrested on September 26 in Zurich on an outstanding warrant in the United States in connection with a 1977 child-sex case.
Polanski, who lives in France, hasn't traveled to the United States since he pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court to having unlawful sex with a minor. He then fled the States before he could be sentenced.
He was accused of drugging and raping Samantha Geimer when she was just 13.
Polanski's lawyers have alleged misconduct on the part of the Los Angeles criminal justice system at the time of the plea deal.
Folco Galli, a spokesman for the Federal Office of Justice in Bern, Switzerland, told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday that his office has rejected Polanski's request to reconsider the warrant that led to his arrest.
