Tim Gunn Writes Fashion Bible

Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books imprint announced last week that it will publish Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible: The Fascinating History of Everything in Your Closet, the follow-up to his New York Times bestseller, Gunn’s Golden Rules.

The press release promises that Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible will be a witty, informative book with each chapter covering an item of clothing from its earliest incarnation to the present day - from shoes to pants, underwear to the tie. The book will no doubt be a must-read for anyone with an interest in fashion, clothes, or cultural history. Chances are, not only will it provide the everyday fashion lover with someplace to turn for questions about silhouettes or stilettos, but it will also remind us just how much fun fashion can be.

Tim Gunn has been co-host of Project Runway for each of its eight seasons. By day, he is the Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne, Inc., where he is responsible for attracting, retaining, and developing creative talent. Prior to that, he served as a member of the administration and faculty at Parsons School of Design for 24 years. Gunn has lectured on fashion and lifestyle design and has been featured both on television and in print, and he co-hosted ABC's 83rd Academy Awards, Oscar's Red Carpet Live, on February 27th.  He also has a featured role in Sony's upcoming movie, The Smurfs, scheduled to be released in theaters in August 2011.

Heidi Klum Gets Lucky

In the March issue of Lucky mag, not only does mom and model Heidi Klum make the cover, but she dishes the details of fashion, style, shopping and McDonald's. 

She credits her own mother for being her personal inspiration when it comes to style, dishes that if she were trapped on a desert island and her husband Seal was making a visit, she'd sport a pair of Louboutins - and nothing else - and she thinks Barack Obama is one smokin' hot Prez.

Avril Lavigne Clothing Line Inspired by 'Alice in Wonderland'

 
In collaboration with Disney, Abbey Dawn fashions by Avril Lavigne, will roll out an exclusive, limited edition collection of apparel inspired by the new fantasy adventure, Alice in Wonderland, which hits theaters on Friday, March 5.

The collection, which blends Avril's rock and roll vibe with the title character's sense of imagination, will debut exclusively in Kohl's stores nationwide and on Kohls.com on March 5th.

Featuring special details that incorporate Wonderland, the collection consists of best selling styles including graphic tees and denim. 

Prices range from $28.00 for printed tees to $54.00 for denim.

Awesome Duct Tape Prom Gowns and Suits

 
I've been following this contest for a few years now, and I absolutely love it!  I'm always impressed by the sheer talent and all around craftiness of those who can make a roll of Duct Tape look so good!

A little history:

Ten years ago, Duck Tape brand duct tape launched the Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest, which challenges high school students from the United States and Canada to create and accessorize prom outfits that are unique, beautiful - and made out of duct tape. For their trouble - and Duct Tape designer duds - winners earn some much-needed scholarship money for college.

This time around, in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Stuck at Prom Contest, the top 10 couples chosen will each receive scholarship money broken down like so:

• First Place - $3,000 each and $3,000 for the school that hosted their prom
• Second Place - $2,000 each and $2,000 for their school
• Third Place - $1,000 each and $1,000 for their school

The remaining seven finalist couples will receive $500 each and $500 for their school.

The 10 finalist couples will be chosen based on workmanship, originality, use of color, accessories and quantity of duct tape used to create their prom attire.

Couples will then compete during a period of on-line public voting, however staying in the race could prove a bit sticky - er - I mean tricky because in the new voting format, the top 10 couples will be "voted off" based on lowest number of overall on-line votes.

Students interested in participating can go to http://www.stuckatprom.com for official contest rules, important contest dates and a registration form.

Joan Collins Turns Back Time

 
The actress posed for jeweller Alexis Bittar, who has unveiled a costume jewellery line appropriately called Superbitch, said to have been inspired by the Alexis Carrington character.

Miss Collins, whose husband is a mere 44, has insisted she would never resort to cosmetic surgery to preserve her looks. On Wednesday she wasn't saying whether she had the same views on a little airbrushing.

In the past she has said: "In front of the camera my skin probably isn't nearly as good as it used to be. But, what the hell, everybody's got to get older.'

Ah...I remember those Dynasty days...high maintenance hair and make-up, dripping gemstones and shimmering baubles, elegant gowns and trendy pantsuits with matching shoulder-padded jackets...!

Drew's Dress at SAG Awards: What's Happening Here?

 
Drew Barrymore attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards over the weekend, and while I love Drew and the I think color of this gown is spectacular, I'm find myself trying to figure out exactly what's going on here.

Was this gown designed for one person - or two - or maybe it's mix and match?

Perhaps the designer had something else in mind - like it's actually a separate three piece ensemble; the smaller top skirt and bodice can be worn if the wearer wants a mini-dress, or perhaps the bottom portion can be worn with the sleeveless bodice and a nice jacket when attending more formal occasions. 

Perhaps it was intended to be shared; wear one piece and give the other to a friend.

Or to achieve the look shown, just wear all three pieces at the same time.

Britney Spears and Candie's Pair Up for 2010

Britney Spears and Candie's have paired up again for another go 'round this year. 

On Thursday, Iconix Brand Group announced it had renewed its exclusive partnership with Spears for the Candie's brand line, allowing Spears to continue appearing in Candie’s ad campaigns throughout 2010.

Said Britney:

"I had a great experience working with Candie’s and Kohl’s last year and I am thrilled to be asked to sign on again for a second year. We're planning some very cool photo shoots and I can't wait for my fans to see them."

Spears recently wrapped her world tour, The Circus Starring Britney Spears, which Candie’s and Kohl’s were associate sponsors. The tour started in Britney’s home state of Louisiana in March 2009, and was the # 4 highest grossing tour of the year, bringing in a total of $83 million.

Weinstein Golden Globes After Party

I thought almost everybody looked fabulous at last night's 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards Ceremony. I wasn't impressed by Chloe Sevigney's ruffled gown and I thought Cher looked a little scary in her Morticia Addams dress, but all in all, I was really impressed by most everyone's designer duds,
